WOMEN OVER AGE 40 - MAKE A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION TO GET YOUR MAMMOGRAM EVERY YEAR ! Breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in American women and the second leading cause of cancer death. Early detection is the key. Breast cancer can be detected by mammography in women that have no symptoms of breast cancer. Women age 40 and older should receive annual mammograms, for life. The most common symptom of breast cancer is a painless mass in the breast. Women should have a clinical breast exam done by their health care provider annually at their physical, especially women over age 40. Monthly self-breast exams can also be beneficial in detecting a mass. Prevention also plays a role in breast cancer development. Risk factors that can be controlled include obesity, alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity. Women take care of yourselves!
Men encourage the women in your life to take care of themselves! NO INSURANCE or your INSURANCE DOESN’T COVER IT – WE HAVE A PROGRAM THAT WILL COVER IT Most insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid pay for annual breast exams for women over age 40. For women age 40 -65 who have no insurance or their insurance does not provide mammogram coverage Emmet County Public Health has a program that will pay for them.
